T.O.T.E. stands for Test-Operate-Test-Exit. It is a basic structure of strategies.
The T.O.T.E. model was born out of an attempt to describe the way our brains work, and was first presented in 1960 in the book “Blueprints and the Structure of Behaviour”. Its authors are George A. Miller, Eugene Gallanter and Karl H. Pribram. In a nutshell, the POPS model describes the optimal process of achieving a goal, and is similar to the way computer algorithms work.

TOTE is an acronym for Test-Operation-Test-Exit. The TOTE model is only a model, and is not intended to be 100% correct. However, it does provide a useful way of looking at strategies, understanding how they work and how they can be modified if we are not getting the results we are looking for.
