Virtual reality can be used to design products and is very suitable for bespoke furniture design. Using an immersive design approach can improve communication and reduce misunderstandings, make it easier for the designer to develop a design in a given environment and produce high-impact presentations and meetings. In this nugget we will focus on two key functions where Virtual Reality really makes the difference compared to traditional Computer Aided Design. We will look at the design exploration and space planning function and the natural gesture design function.
Learning outcomes
- By the end of the module, learners will be able to explain how space planning and design exploration is facilitated by immersion in a 3D scan.
- At the end of the module, learners will be able to compare the added value of virtual reality prototyping, testing and validation compared to 2D renderings.
- At the end of the module, the learner will be able to describe two advantages that natural gesture in Virtual Reality brings to design.
