SUMMARY
The “Maintenance Operations with Augmented Reality” course explores the transformative role of Augmented Reality (AR) in modern maintenance workflows, providing learners with a comprehensive understanding of its principles, applications, and challenges. The course begins with an introduction to AR technology, highlighting its components and integration into industrial systems. Real-world examples from manufacturing showcase how AR enhances efficiency, reduces downtime, and improves safety. Learners will explore the limitations of traditional maintenance methods and how AR addresses these issues with innovative solutions. The course also examines the measurable benefits of AR, such as cost reduction, improved accuracy, and increased productivity, while emphasizing its return on investment (ROI). Additionally, participants will gain insights into the technical architecture of AR applications, including the tools, platforms, and technologies that power their development. Finally, the course addresses the challenges of AR adoption, such as technological limitations and workforce adaptation, equipping learners with the knowledge to successfully implement and optimize AR solutions in maintenance operations.

About The Author
The Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Aeronautics, in the University of Patras, Greece, is under the supervision of Professor George Chryssolouris and is oriented on research & development in cutting edge scientific & technological fields. LMS employs approximately 70 researchers organized in three different groups focusing on Manufacturing Processes Modelling & Energy Efficiency, Robots, Automation & Virtual Reality in Manufacturing and Manufacturing Systems. LMS has significant experience in the area of Production Systems Planning, Control & Networking, focused on the development, software implementation and use of advanced tools based on Artificial Intelligence methods for production systems planning and control and for the development of intelligent internet-based applications addressing the enterprise-wide business activities.
