ShakeAM- Design for MEX - Practical Exercises - Mini Drone - 1034

By Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation of Patras

Type of course:

Digital learning, Lesson

Language:

Duration:

180 minutes

Workload:

2 hours

Proficiency:

Advanced

Target:

Professionals, Students, Workers

In this session we are going to combine all the previous gained knowledge in order to design and optimize (and print!) parts that are going to be manufactured using the Material Extrusion (MEX) Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology and specifically a mini drone.

After completing this lesson, you will be able to assess if parts are suitable to be manufactured with Additive Manufacturing and specifically using the Material Extrusion Technology and also assess whether the parts can be subject to optimization by using advanced Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) techniques.

After identifying a suitable part for AM optimization, we will learn about different methods and techniques we can use for optimizing a part in terms of weight, keeping all relevant DfAM principles in mind, as well as thinking about cost, manufacturability, materials and other constraints.

By using a generative design methodology through Fusion 360 software, we will learn how to set up a generative design study in order to minimize the weight/mass of a part, implement the study and generate results.

Finally, we will edit and optimize the results of our generative study to optimize manufacturability in terms of the MEX process.
