SUMMARY
MQTT is a lightweight messaging protocol designed for resource-constrained IoT devices, using the publish/subscribe model to facilitate efficient, real-time communication.
This protocol decouples publishers and subscribers, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and low overhead, making it ideal for IoT applications in environments with limited resources.
MQTT’s broker-based paradigm reduces bandwidth usage and supports asynchronous communication, which is particularly beneficial for devices that are intermittently online.
By leveraging MQTT, IoT devices can exchange data in a reliable, scalable, and efficient manner while minimizing power consumption and latency.

Learning outcomes
- By the end of this module, learners will be able to clearly describe the MQTT publish/subscribe communication model, including the role of brokers and how this model supports efficient and decoupled messaging in IoT systems.
- Within this course, learners will analyze and contrast MQTT with client-server communication models, identifying at least three specific advantages of MQTT in terms of bandwidth efficiency, scalability, and asynchronous messaging.
- By completing the hands-on activity, learners will successfully configure an MQTT broker and set up at least one publisher and one subscriber to enable real-time data transfer for a basic IoT use case, such as temperature sensor monitoring.
