The course described offers an introduction to the Industrial Needs Pyramid and the pillars of the human
centric system – safety, inclusivity, and empowerment. Over the course of 6 lessons, students will be introduced to relevant skills that can be fostered to achieve individual and structural empowerment.

The course would focus on developing practical skills most relevant to individual and structural empowerment.
Specifically, students would gain practical knowledge of control systems in automation, with a focus on the workings of Programmable Logic Controllers.
This will be done with consideration to the empowerment pillar, to ensure students understand how this technology can be harnessed for effective change.

Moreover, the course would enable students to acquire skills in programming virtual robotic cells and
understanding their operating principles. By the end of the course, students would be able to apply these newly acquired skills in the production of a robotic cell that would further reinforce their understanding.

Overall, the course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of industrial needs and how they can be addressed through individual and structural empowerment. By the end of the course, students would be better equipped to make positive changes in their respective workplaces, and contribute towards creating a more empowering industrial sector.


Learning outcomes

  1. After this learning path, the student is able to implement individual and structural empowerment processes in a manufacturing context by identifying the required empowering skills.
  2. After this learning path, the student is able to explain empowerment skills in their organization while recognizing their maturity level.
  3. After this learning path, the student is able to recognize the differences between empowering and not empowering practices, behavior, and equipment in human-centric manufacturing by demonstrating their benefits for empowering processes.
