Topology optimization is a technique that optimizes material layout within a user-defined space for a given set of loads, conditions, and constraints. It can be used to create strongly optimized designs in a number of industrial sectors.
In this learning path, topology optimization will be introduced to let the learner understand the potential advantages of using that technology to create more sustainable and optimized designs. The learner will also get into the main techniques used to perform structural topology optimization and she/he will be trained on the different steps for topology optimization process. A few case studies will be presented considering both functionality and manufacturability.
Learning outcomes
- At the end of the learning path, the learner is able to: differentiate between design space and constraints on a real case study, and interpret the results of a Topology Optimization.
- At the end of the learning path design professionals are able to: execute a Topology Optimization using FE simulation tools, and design an AM component starting from the results of a Topology Optimization.
- At the end of the learning path the learner is able to compare the ecological and technological performance of a TO component with respect to a traditional design component.
