Throughout this learning module, we’ll explore the interconnection of fundamental decarbonization concepts, starting from how Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions contribute to an organization’s carbon footprint, how net-zero strategies and targets (for instance aligned with the Science-Based Targets initiative, SBTi) drive sustainable actions, and how disclosures via international organizations such as the CDP enhance environmental transparency.
Learning outcomes
- Define and differentiate between Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions. Compare and contrast the direct and indirect nature of emissions in relation to organizational activities and the challenges in tackling them.
- Understand the difference between carbon neutral and net zero strategies and how the guidelines from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) align with the latest climate science for decarbonization strategies.
- Develop a clear understanding of the role of transparency regarding emission data and actions, and the role of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in promoting accountability in environmental reporting.
