This nugget provides the basis for understanding the modular production concepts to get ready for
consuming other nuggets in the learning path. The learner will be able to understand the rationale behind dividing the production process into discrete modules, each responsible for a specific task or function. These modules are designed to be independent and interchangeable, enabling easy assembly and disassembly.
This modularity promotes flexibility, as producers can mix and match modules to create different production lines based on specific product requirements.
A key aspect of the modular production is the interconnectivity. The modules are connected through a network, often referred to as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), which enables real-time communication and data exchange among modules, allowing them to coordinate and collaborate seamlessly.
This connectivity enhances visibility, data collection, and decision-making throughout the production process and allows for customization (reconfiguration of the modules) and for scalability.
Learning outcomes
- The learners will be able to understand the relevant key concepts of modular manufacturing., especially related to technology-independent description of the product and resource.
- Learners will be able to design a PDDL description of a simple product.
- Learners will be able to sketch a modular structure of a simple robotic cell.
