Open manufacturing is the second main process in the Do It Together approach, after co-creation.
The co-creation process allows customers and designers to work together to generate design and manufacturing data.
The open manufacturing process aims to transform this virtual data into a physical product close to the customer. This poses a number of steps and technological and organisational challenges, which are discussed in this Nugget.
Learning outcomes
- By the end of the module, learners can explain what open-manufacturing is by describing the expected activities within the production step of the Do it together process.
- By the end of the module, learners can give examples of the implementation of the open-manufacturing phase in terms of tools, software and organisation to support the process
- By the end of the module, learners can describe the main challenges of the open manufacturing process for implementing the Do It Together process
