3D scanning metrology is the process of acquiring highly accurate physical 3D measurements of an object, which can be analyzed or retro-engineered. It is based on comparing dimensions of the source 3D CAD model and a 3D scanned model of the object, producing a 3D heat map of measurement deviations. This learning nugget covers basic principles of 3D metrology, benefits over the traditional CMM metrology, object’s size limits and procedure of comparing CAD model and scanned one.
Learning outcomes
- The learner will be able to successfully operate metrology tasks using 3D light scanners
- The learner will be able to compare pros and cons between CMM metrology and structured light metrology
