In this session on Supply Chain Management (SCM) for the CTO 5.0 program, we explored the critical elements that drive successful supply chains and their significant impact on business performance. The session covered four key concepts:

  1. Key Elements of Supply Chain Management – Understanding the core components of SCM, including sourcing, production, logistics, and returns management, is essential for ensuring efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  2. Supply Chain Logistics – The importance of logistics was emphasized, focusing on how transportation, warehousing, and inventory management work together to maintain smooth operations and timely deliveries.
  3. Supply Chain Management Challenges – We examined the challenges related to supply chain configuration and coordination, such as managing supplier relationships and addressing disruptions that could affect business continuity.
  4. The Impact of Manufacturing Supply Chains on Businesses – The session highlighted how an optimized supply chain directly influences key business outcomes like cost efficiency, speed, quality, and risk management, ultimately contributing to a company’s competitiveness and long-term growth.

By understanding these concepts, participants gained valuable insights into how to strategically manage their organization’s supply chain operations to drive efficiency, resilience, and success in today’s dynamic business environment.

About The Author

Panos Stavropoulos is an Assistant Professor at the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS), University of Patras, Greece. He has been teaching as a Lecturer (2014-2018) and Assistant Professor (2018-present) on topics of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Processes. He has been coordinating and managing EITM projects and has been involved in nuggets development on topics related to Manufacturing Processes.

Vasiliki Panagiotopoulou is a Senior Research Engineer at the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS) since 2020, with research interests focusing on Sustainability, and Circular Economy. She has extensive experience participating in various EITM education and innovation projects and developing educational content for multiple initiatives, including Demo4Green and SRC4i.

Giorgos Gkoumas has been a Research Engineer at the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS) since 2024. His research interests focus on sustainability and energy systems. He has experience participating in various projects related to regional development, entrepreneurial discovery, and innovation center development.
