This lesson introduces the fundamentals of safe manual disassembly of mechatronic products. Learners explore basic connector types, tools and safety practices before moving on to more advanced procedures.
SUMMARY
In this introduction, learners discover the overall goals of the programme, how the modules are organised and what types of activities and assessments they can expect. The focus is on clarifying why mechatronic disassembly matters for safety, maintenance and circularity, and on framing the role of VR and digital tools within the learning journey. In the next module, learners build a solid foundation for mechatronic disassembly through theory, visual readings and interactive activities. They explore common electrical and mechanical connectors, basic hand tools and their correct use, as well as core safety, ergonomics and workspace preparation, and practise matching tools to joints, managing small parts and following a logical disassembly sequence. This shared toolbox of concepts and procedures prepares them for subsequent VR-based training and real-world applications.

About The Author

Learning outcomes
- Understand the fundamentals of mechanical and electrical disassembly operations. Identify mechanical connectors and liaisons. Become familiar with basic disassembly tools, and learn about step-by-step processes for manually disassembling industrial products safely and effectively.
- Apply design for disassembly principles to real-world products. Recognize key design features that have an impact on product disassembly. Extract lessons learned from disassembly experiences. Suggest improvements to enhance product de-manufacturing
- Develop the ability to simulate product disassembly through a virtual reality environment. Perform guided disassembly procedures. Demonstrate safe tool usage and sequence of operations virtually. Gain hands-on experience in a risk-free digital setting that mimics real-world workshop conditions
