Consumers are increasingly looking for customised furniture that meets their precise needs, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics. In the co-creation chain for customised furniture, it is necessary to control and optimise all stages from empathy (the moment when the consumer presents his needs to a solution provider) to manufacturing. What’s more, the products manufactured must be increasingly sustainable in order to meet social and environmental challenges. This can involve transforming the digital chain, working practices and production resources, and adopting a “design globally, produce locally” approach1.In this approach, design resources are based on collaboration between actors, fully supported by digital, collaborative and remote tools. This facilitates co-creation between actors who are not physically present. On the other hand, production can be done locally to limit the environmental footprint of furniture production. One way to support these changes is to transform the very first stages of collaboration between a designer and a consumer expressing a need. How can these two people work together to define the need and find solutions? The module will describe the methods to integrate multi-users creativity based on immersive and interactive digital tools, and their impact on a design process.
