SUMMARY
In this learning lesson, we will introduce different marking technologies such as Barcode 128, Data Matrix, QR Code as a data carrier for a Digital Product Passport.
- We will start by looking at the motivation for and the benefits of using marking technologies such as a Barcode 128, Data Matrix, QR Code data carrier in a Digital Product Passport.
- We will give a short introduction to the relevant technologies. This learning unit will provide a detailed overview of the Barcode 128, Data Matrix and QR Code, explaining their respective functionalities, main characteristics and differences in terms of data capacity, error correction, readability, compatibility and data types; it will also highlight the relevant technical standards and the advantages and disadvantages of each technology.
- Finally, we will have a look at the relevant steps for implementing a Digital Product Passport with a QR Code, as an example. Implementing a Digital Product Passport (DPP) with a QR Code involves carefully selecting relevant data, creating the QR Code with this information, physically integrating the code into the product or its packaging, setting up a secure database or cloud platform for data storage and management, developing interfaces for data access by various stakeholders, and finally verifying and validating DPP functionality.
