Target:

Professionals, Students, Workers

This learning path proposes the application of an IEC 61499 framework for the development of control, monitoring and analysis applications. The IEC 61499 standard defines the Function Block paradigm, used to create distributed automation applications. Using this framework, the following topics will be explored:Zero Defects, introduce a series of direct and indirect actions that can be performed in order to achieve Zero Defects Manufacturing. Apply direct actions to detect surface defects, using IEC 61499.

Condition Monitoring, introduce Reactive, Preventive and Predictive maintenance approaches in manufacturing. Develop and apply a condition monitoring architecture to achieve predictive maintenance, using IEC 61499.

System Integration, introduce system integration problems from a pure technological perspective and from a manufacturing perspective. Apply IEC 61499 Function Blocks to
solve a system integration problem.

Learning outcomes

  1. After completing this learning path, students will be able to explain Zero Defects Manufacturing and illustrate its importance. Also, students will be able to design approaches to implement Zero Defects Manufacturing.
  2. After completing this learning path, students will understand different Condition Monitoring architectures and use them to build a condition monitoring solution.
  3. After completing this learning path, students will be able to recognise System Integration problems in manufacturing. Also, students will understand how to use IEC 61499 and use it to solve System Integration problems in manufacturing.
