Optical sensors are elements of automation that can be found in industrial plants almost at every step. They fulfill many different tasks. They are used to determine the level of liquids and loose materials, they control the position of moving parts of machines, perform safety functions (e.g. control the closing of covers), they are used in vibration measurements or in the processes of identifying various types of objects. Currently, almost every application, both the less and the more complicated, includes detection elements. Measurement sensors can be used wherever we need to measure distances, detect the presence of objects or detect specific features of these objects. Measurement sensors are perfect for quality control. Compact structure, very simple programming, high precision and accuracy are the main reasons for using such sensors in the designed machines. With the use of PLC programming languages we can simulate such situations that support human i.a. in the production line inspection. Here is an example shown with the use of IDEC.
This course enable the student to acquire knowledge in the field of:• Basic types of inductive, capacitive and photoelectric sensors used in industry and principles of their operation.• Correct selection of the sensor depending on the material of the object• The location of sensors on the stand• The methodology of recognizing the presence, colour and height of objects
