The XR2LabTrain training platform is designed to enhance workforce skills in visual defect inspection by combining immersive Extended Reality (XR) training with data-driven adaptation and shop-floor assistance. Although automated inspection systems are widely deployed in manufacturing, human inspectors remain essential for detecting rare or ambiguous defects and making final quality decisions. Visual inspection, however, is cognitively demanding, difficult to standardize, and highly sensitive to variability across operators, shifts, and production variants.
The training platform addresses these challenges through a learner-centered, modular XR environment that is closely aligned with real industrial workflows. Its primary objective is to support consistent and reliable defect detection while ensuring ergonomic safety, efficient skill acquisition, and continuous alignment with evolving production conditions.
About the Author
The Advanced XR Training for Defect Inspection in Manufacturing training platform was authored within the XR2LabTrain project by PROFACTOR, Techhouse, and Mindconsole. Together, the authors created a human-centric XR training solution that strengthens industrial inspection skills through immersive and adaptive learning: it addresses the difficulty of visual defect detection—often subtle, rare, or visible only from specific angles—by enabling interactive exploration of diverse defect cases. By digitizing expert knowledge and real work processes and adapting training in real time to learner performance, the platform supports scalable, up-to-date manufacturing upskilling and inspection accuracy.
